Artist of the week - Rich Shelton

This week, our Window Walk Gallery Highlighted Artist of the Week is Rich Shelton.

Rich is a local desert artist who started drawing and painting at a young age. Most of his design skills and knowledge were self taught.

He started creating Southwest style art with an intense level of detail. But soon switched to his true love, Surrealism, the definition best describing his work ... “the use of art to release the creative potential of the unconscious mind often portraying an irrational juxtaposition of images.”

He enjoys using local imagery of our beautiful desert landscapes with a surreal twist. You will rarely see a straight line in his paintings.

Richard has exhibited his art in local galleries and art festivals in Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage and La Quinta.

His 4 ft x 5 ft “Palm Springs Life” painting was chosen as the signature poster for the annual Affaire in the Gardens - Beverly Hills Art Show.

During the pandemic he made the prolonged family time fun by getting his wife and 2 young children started in the joy of brushless “pour painting” ... pouring liquid paint on a canvas and quickly moving it to create the design.

When asked why he wanted to participate in a gallery that supports Mental Health Awareness he said, “I know my art can bring some much needed enjoyment and smiles right now just by looking at it.”
