Artist of the week- Adriana Lopez-Ospina, also known as PURA
We would like to highlight our Artist of the week participating in our Window Walk Gallery at The River!
Adriana Lopez-Ospina, also known as PURA, is a Colombian American mixed media artist currently working on her series All That Glitters is Fools Gold.
PURA is inspired by Bogota, Colombia’s most prominent museum, the Museo del Oro. This museum is home to the largest collection of gold artifacts in the world. These artifacts serve as a glimpse into the life and memory of the indigenous communities that lived in present day Colombia.
As a Colombian born American PURA is only now starting to learn about the deep cultural significance gold had to the indigenous communities that her family comes from. In her work, she aims to reflect on her connection to the indigenous community who’s traditions lay the foundation for the myth of El Dorado.
She strives to reconnect with her indigenous roots by creating images of her life and memory in gold as those who did before her.
When asked why she wanted to participate in the Window Walk Gallery she responded:
"I wanted to be a part of a gallery that supports mental health because I have so many friends and family that deal with depression and anxiety.
I want to support organizations that work to destigmatize talking about mental health because there are so many people that are shamed out of getting the help that they need."
