Artist of the Week- Melody Cohn

This week we are highlighting Melody Cohn as our Window Walk Gallery Artist of the Week!

Melody was born in a small town in Southern Indiana. Her Father was a musician therefore her Parents named her Melody. Coming from an artistic family, she knew from an early age that she was born to be an artist. Often she would be found singing dancing and creating anything that inspired her. Art & Music were her favorite courses in school, she loved creating and expressing herself through the arts.

In 1984 she became a mother to her son and daughter. She used her artistic talents at that point to redesign her house as well as singing in the church choir.

In 2000 she moved to California. In 2009, she started creating/painting again, and has been actively painting ever since.

Creating batik, silk art, watercolor on canvas, acrylic, glitter, and working with resin are all mediums that she has evolved in.

Melody has led art workshops for The Ophelia Project of The JFK Foundation as well as had hands on in mentoring girls in the project.

Escaping the chaotic world and tapping into her inner child inspires her and helps her glow and grow. Utilizing her other artistic outlets, she is an active musician and loves to play her quartz crystal singing bowls for sound healing.

She is a true believer in meditation and is a meditation facilitator that cleanses and reboots the chakra system. Melody is also a certified Reiki healing practitioner and feels that it brings balance and harmony to her life and others. Being all that I want to be makes me a better humanitarian, mother, wife, friend and so much more.

When asked why she wanted to participate in the Window Walk Gallery she said,

“I am passionate about the mental health crisis happening in our world today and I feel that The Desert Behavioral Health is exactly what our community needs and We are fortunate to have this available for those in need.

I am honored to be a featured artist at The River Window Walk Gallery in Rancho Mirage. It is a great opportunity for me to assist with the cause and to showcase my art.

Art is one way I express myself and the action of creating is fun and positive energy and proactive in my mental health and well-being. While painting each layer I relate it to another gifted day in life. Creating art has been of great assistance to my own healing journey. Putting energy into art allows me to escape and capture a moment in time that will never happen again in the very same way.

I feel that art is healing. It gives a place of refuge while battling energies in sometimes chaotic world.”
