This weeks Window Walk Gallery Artist of the Week is Irma Gonzalez.
“Hi, I am Irma Gonzalez. I am 37 years old and I’m the second of five children. I was born in Mexico. My parents brought me into the United States when I was a very young child. The USA has always been and is my home.
I started painting in 2016 and entered my art in the Riverside County Desert Behavioral Health Board’s Art Show at the Coachella Valley Rescue Mission.
In 2018 I was introduced to a program at the Windy Springs Wellness Center that helps people with mental health challenges. The Staff there are wonderful and I was introduced to a lovely art class run by Miss Julie.
She encouraged me to participate in the Window Walk Gallery at The River since it is run by the same Desert Board that puts on the annual May Art Show supporting mental health.
I am privileged to be part of this show because it reminds me that having a mental health condition isn’t an impairment but a challenge that we can overcome with education, productivity, and self-awareness.”
