Collectors Hannah Thiele, Jim Watterson, and publisher Frank Jones will lead a discussion with the artists about their work and careers in the arts.
The painting and drawings in this exhibition confront life’s choices, the consequences of choices, and the often-contrasting approaches men and women take regarding responsibility of their choices. The human condition has been a focus of the Barrett’s attention since they served together as Peace Corps volunteers following graduating from art school in 1968. Barbara’s career as an artist, art teacher and eventually education administrator and Robert’s as an art museum director and then as a cultural tourism management executive provided them with ample opportunity to observe and experience the shortcomings and successes that life delivers. Contrasting technical approaches while focused on the same theme make this exhibition of the Barrett’s artwork an intriguing example of how artists express similar concepts in strikingly different ways.
